UK pricing guide

How much does marketing mix modelling cost in the UK?

Short answer

UK enterprise MMM commonly runs £100k to £400k a year plus services. An in-house build on Robyn or Meridian has no licence fee but needs £150k to £600k a year of senior data science. Modern decision-econometrics engagements are priced per model or market and start materially lower.

The three UK pricing models

Legacy enterprise MMM

£100k to £400k per year

Annual licence plus services from established econometrics vendors. Usually quarterly or annual refresh, a fixed model specification, and a consulting layer that owns the interpretation. Best when procurement wants a known name and a single accountable supplier.

In-house build on open source

£150k to £600k per year in people

Meta Robyn, Google Meridian, PyMC-Marketing and LightweightMMM carry no licence fee, but a credible UK build needs one to two senior data scientists at £150k to £300k loaded cost each, plus data engineering to keep Barb, platform and sales feeds flowing. Cheapest on paper, most expensive in elapsed time.

Modern decision econometrics

Priced per model or market

Bayesian MMM delivered as a service with fast refresh, geo-test calibration, scenario planning and a decision layer. Starts materially below enterprise licence levels because the modelling is automated and the engagement is scoped to markets rather than headcount.

The costs UK buyers forget

  • Data engineering to assemble two to three years of weekly UK media, sales, price and promotion history: often two to six weeks of effort before any model runs.
  • Barb, Route, RAJAR and JICMAIL access or agency-supplied delivery data, which may sit behind existing agency contracts.
  • Geo and lift testing budget: without incrementality tests the model is uncalibrated, and calibration is what makes a CFO sign against it.
  • Refresh cost: a model refreshed once a year is a report, not a decision system. Ask what a refresh costs before you sign.
  • Internal time: workshops, definitions of revenue and margin, and the alignment work between marketing and finance.

MMM cost: frequently asked questions

How much does MMM cost in the UK?

+

UK enterprise marketing mix modelling typically costs £100k to £400k a year plus services, with quarterly or annual refresh. Building in-house on Meta Robyn or Google Meridian has no licence fee but needs one to two senior data scientists at £150k to £300k loaded cost each. Modern decision-econometrics providers price per model or per market and start meaningfully below enterprise licence levels.

Is MMM worth it for a UK brand spending under £5m on media?

+

Below roughly £3m to £5m of annual working media, a full enterprise engagement rarely pays back. A focused Bayesian model on a single market, calibrated with one or two geo tests, usually does: the decision it changes is normally worth multiples of its cost, because reallocation gains of 20% to 30% of working media are common.

What drives the price up or down?

+

Number of markets and brands, granularity (weekly versus daily), number of channels and sub-channels, how clean the historic data is, whether experiments are included, and refresh frequency. Data condition is the single biggest swing factor in UK projects.

Are open-source MMM tools really free?

+

The software is free. The capability is not. Robyn and Meridian both need senior Bayesian and media-modelling judgement to specify priors, adstock and saturation, plus ongoing engineering to keep data flowing and models refreshed. Most UK in-house builds stall on refresh and governance rather than on the initial model.

How quickly does MMM pay back?

+

Across engagements, typical outcomes are 30% marketing efficiency uplift through reallocation and £1m to £10m profit gains per programme. Where data is in reasonable shape, the first reallocation decision usually lands within one quarter.
